I recall my first yoga class I attended back in 2009. Clueless to the level of hiding, avoiding and posturing I was engaging in my life, that yoga class shed a glaring light on my damaging habits. My breath was mirroring exactly how I was meeting life. Short. Constricted. Small. Choppy.
As the class was flowing from pose to pose keeping their breath at a steady pace, I was suffering. What felt like drowning or suffocating. I literally could not catch my breath and I wanted nothing more than to get up and walk out the door. I stayed and did the only thing I know how to do so well; put on a good face, hold all the suffering in and keep going. I still feel that pain when I talk about it today!
I knew from that day forward that there was medicine to be found by exploring the breath. I didn’t exactly know how, but something within in me was guiding me to continue exploring more about breathing
I continued on my journey, attending yoga classes and eventually gaining certification in 2016 to become a yoga teacher. While fully immersing myself in the practice teaching over 2,000 hours of group and 1:1 classes, I centered the majority of my classes around the breath. I was constantly on a journey to learn more about the science behind breathing and other breathing modalities used across the globe for breath therapy.
Gaining certification in the Oxygen Advantage system in 2018 and working under the tutelage of Dan Brule in deeper aspects of breath therapy, I would continue to find and work with the leading experts in the field of breathwork. Along my journey of learning, I was also healing myself..
